At 12 Jason loses his parents suddenly in an automobile accident. He is taken in by his paternal grandparents. Grandmother is a tender, loving woman while grandfather is a war veteran suffering from PTSD and is very withdrawn and quiet. Jason dearly loves his grandmother, but doesn't even know grandfather.
